Bhubaneswar, 09th June, 2016 (OdishaLIVE Bureau): On the occasion of Nandini Satpathy’s birth anniversary, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Naveen Patnaik unveiled her statue at the Governor House Square in Bhubaneswar. Shri Patnaik said, “I am glad to unveil the statue and pay my tribute to the great lady.”
Ashok Chandra Panda, Minister – Tourism and Culture, Govt. of Odisha praised the former chief minister for inspiring women and contributing towards the empowerment of women and development of the state.
“Nandini Satpathy was a leader who always thought of the problems faced by the people of Odisha. She was deeply connected with the masses”, the leader of opposition in the Odisha Assembly, Narasingh Mishra said.
Dr. Prasanna Kumar Patasani, MP, Bhubaneswar; Bijay Kumar Mohanty, MLA, Bhubaneswar (Central); Priyadarshi Mishra, MLA, Bhubaneswar (North), Manoranjan Panigrahi, Secretary, Culture and I&PR Department, Govt. of Odisha; Tathagata Satpathy, Editor, Dharitri; and other leaders graced the ceremony.
Nandini Satpathy was the first lady chief minister of Odisha. She was a great politician as well as an author. She was born in Cuttack on 9 June 1931. Her father, Padmabhushan Kalandi Charan Panigrahi was a well known Odia writer.
