Bhubaneswar, 17th May, 2016: Utkal University of Culture’s new campus at Madanpur, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, was inaugurated on Monday by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and in the presence of Governor and Chancellor of Universities, S. C. Jamir.
Spread over 45 acres of land, the new campus was constructed over a period of 8 years. The university which has student strength of around 600 in 22 subjects would be shifting to the new campus from the beginning of new academic session in August of this year.
Amarendra Kumar Pattnaik, Director, Culture; Manoranjan Panigrahy, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Culture Department; Bhagirathi Badajena, MLA, Jatni; Dr. Prasanna Patasani, MP, Lok Sabha; Ashok Chandra Panda, Minister, Tourism and Culture; and Dr. Suman Das, Registrar, Utkal University of Culture were few of the dignitaries that graced the occasion.
The old campus behind Jaydev Bhawan will be used to house the Central Institute of Classical Odia (centre of excellence).
“The Culture Department and Sahitya Akademi will work on a roadmap on the kind of research that will be undertaken in the centre,” informed Culture Minister Ashok Panda.
“Classes will be held in first floor of the new campus and it will currently have two separate 100 bed hostels for both boys and girls. Subjects like classical literature and yoga will also be introduced soon.” said the Vice- Chancellor, Debendra Nath Jena.
